The Paradox Tote is all about juxtaposition, about celebrating life’s wonderful little paradoxes. Rustic yet refined, understated but outspoken, unique yet familiar, daring but grounded. The strange paradox that life’s clearest, most comforting lessons are learned at its lowest points. That the greatest joys in life lead to its greatest sorrows. For every sunrise, a sunset. For every birth, a death. For every love, a loss. These are the lessons that echoed in my mind as I designed this bag.
This Paradox Tote is made from natural, undyed shrunken horse shoulder with an aniline finish that protects the hide while still allowing it to develop a gorgeous patina over time, use, and exposure. The contrast is an Italian bridle leather in a deep, arterial burgundy. The lining is a delicate Italian pebbled veg tan that smells like a field of fresh wildflowers. The handles are oak-tanned cowhide that could hold the weight of the world if they had to. Details like solid copper rivets and hand-stitched turned edges ensure that this bag will endure, even if the moment doesn’t.
